Life is Good but Eternal Life is Better: Week #4 - Friends

Friends: Worldly Popularity vs. Godly Qualities
Wednesday, September 27, 2006

Key Verse: Proverbs 12:26 - A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Key Thought: Friends can either have a positive influence on your life or they can lead you down the road of destruction. The friends you choose to hang around with will ultimately shape you as a person. So the question we want to wrestle with is, “How do you choose your friends?”

The World’s Standard:
-- Popularity
-- Social Standard
-- Athletic Ability
-- Appearance
-- Common Interests

God’s Standard:
-- What’s on the inside counts the most.

PC’s Tips on Choosing Friends:
1. Common Interest
a. Grade level
b. Sports/Band
c. Neighborhood
d. Faith

2. Great Personal Attributes
a. Honesty
b. Loyal
c. Fun-Loving
d. Respectful: To You and Others

3. Who Will Not Lead You Astray
a. Don’t be a follower, instead be the leader.
b. Good people make bad choices, good friends influence their friends NOT to make bad choices.
c. Proverbs 12:26 - A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
d. If you are involved in a “bad friendship”, get out of it before it is too late.

Friends, you can’t live with them and you can’t live without them. Friends are everywhere and they will have a HUGE impact on your life. You need to make smart decisions when choosing the friends you are going to hang out with. Don’t let them lead you astray, instead you be a leader and lead them to Christ.

"Life is Good but Eternal Life is Better!" Week #3 - The Dating Game!

The Dating Game... It is one of those things in life that can be either great or that can cause a great deal of pain in our lives. I believe God's word is VERY clear on what type of person we should be dating. Let's take a closer look at the differences between the world's best date and God's best date

The World View: Desired Qualities in our Date
-- Good Looking
-- Physically Buff
-- Money
-- Social Standard - Connections
-- Great Hair (Thanks Kierston)
-- Personality

God's View: Desired Qualities of our Date
-- 2 Corinthians 6:14 - Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war.
-- We need to date people who have the same Godly values we have.
-- If we don't, we risk a life time of pain and regret.

PC’s Tips on Dating:
1. Talk with your Parent(s) on the Rules of Dating.
Set CLEAR rules about dating.
· Who to date?
· Where can you go on your date?
· What age you can start dating?
· What time you need to be home?
2. Ask the Following Questions When Going on a Date:
Who:
· Who is this person that I am going to be dating?
· Can I trust them?
· How well do I know them?
Why:
· Why do I want to date this person?
· Why am I attracted to this person?
· Why is this person attracted to me?
Where:
· Where are we going to go on this date?
· No plan, means NO date.
When:
· What time do you plan on the date starting.
· What time will the date be over.
How:
· How are you planning to go on the date?
· Who’s driving?
· Will there be other couples?
3. Communicate your Plans with your Parents.
4. 2 Corinthians 6:14 - Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war.

Dating is a fun and an exciting time in your life but there are many dangers in it as well. Before you start dating, take time and talk to your parent(s) about it. And ALWAYS keep 2 Corinthians 6:14 in mind when you are choosing whether to date a person or not.

"Life is Good but Eternal Life is Better" Week #2 - Sex is Good but Done God's Way It is Even Better!

Sex is always one of those topics that draws a lot of attention. The world like to portray sex as the thing to do. God's word on the other hand gives us a clear picture of how, when and with who we should have sex with. Done in God's way sex is better than good ... it is GREAT!

Key Verses:
Deuteronomy 5:18
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Ephesians 5:3
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4

Example from the Bible: Tough Decisions and Touch Consequences

Situation #1 - David & Bathsheba: 2 Samuel 11 &12
Situation #2 - Joseph & Potiphar: Genesis 39
Situation #3 - The Adulterous Woman: John 8:1-11

PC Tips to Staying Pure:
1. Know in your head and in your heart your physical boundaries before you get married and
don’t move those boundaries forward until you do get married.
2. Communicate those boundaries with the one that you are dating.
3. Stay out of tempting situations!
4. Find someone to keep you accountable - someone who has permission to ask you the tough questions and someone with whom you can be brutally honest.

True Love Waits commitment that some of you made.
Believing that True Love Waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to remain sexually pure from this day forward until the day I enter into a biblical marriage relationship.

"Life is Good but Eternal Life is Better" Week #1 - The Allure of the World

Last Wedensday we talked about why the world's ways and views are so alluring.
For Example:
1. It's Fun
2. It's New
3. Everyone is doing it, why shouldn't I

The Facts:
1. God created us and knows what best for us. We need to just trust Him.
2. Satan ways are the worlds ways. His goal is to destroy YOU!

Pastor C's Thoughts:
1. Don't buy the Lies
2. Learn form the mistakes of others
3. Don't try to beat Satan at his own game

It was a great night. Don't worry if missed anything. Come next week and get caught up!!
