The PowerHouse: Stick With It
Wednesday, January 03, 2007

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 3:14-16 - Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way.

Key Thought: As we start a new year, it is easy for us to become stagnant in our walk with God. As a Christian we have the duty to continue to grow in our knowledge and wisdom of God’s word. Growth becomes the essential element of our walk with God. We must remain diligent in faithful obedience and Christian growth.

Reasons We Struggle to Grow:
1. We’re lazy!!
a. The Bible is boring to read.
b. I don’t understand it.
c. I already know everything.

2. It’s not our top priority.
a. There are more important things to do than study the Bible.
b. I was meaning to do that but I just can’t find the time.
c. Are you kidding me? The new TV shows/football games are on.

3. We don’t care to grow.
a. If I start growing in my Christian walk that means I might have to do something I am not comfortable doing.
b. It’s not cool to show that you are interested in this Christian thing. Others might make fun of me.
c. I really don’t care about growing as a Christian. I just don’t want to go to Hell.

PC Tips to Growth:
1. Understand that God’s words holds truths that help us live a better life.
a. It’s our handbook to RIGHTOUSNESS. It teaches us how to live right. Ephesians 6:2 - “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise”
b. It gives us words of ENCOURAGEMENT. Proverbs 12:16 – “A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.”
c. It's where we go for COMFORT.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

2. Work on being a better person.
a. Being a good person doesn’t happen overnight, it is a process that takes time and effort and it takes the right kind of guidance. The Guidance only found in God’s word.

3. It is your duty.
a. As a Christian, it is your duty to study God’s word.
b. It’s your duty to be able to share God’s word with those whom you come in contact with.
c. It’s your duty to know what God’s word is telling you so you can live like a Christian should.

Tis The Seson of Selfishness

Tis The Season of Selfishness
Wednesday, November 29, 2006

Key Verse:
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:3-4

Key Thought:
Well like it or not, we have officially hit the holiday season. For most of us we will be affected one way or another by the mad rush of the holiday season. For some of us, we will be affected at home because mom and dad are rushing around trying to get everything done in time for Christmas. We will be dragged from store to store while, most likely, our moms try to get that perfect gift for everyone on her list as well as everyone else’s list. Perhaps, others of you will be affected because mom and dad will turn into some kind of an evil possessed person. Shouting out instructions to us like, clean the house, wrap the presents, set up the tree, and hang the Christmas decorations.

Another way we can be affected by the mad rush of the holiday season is this thing I have named the “Selfishness Syndrome”. It happens to all of us. We find ourselves caught up in thought process of, “What is in it for me?” Our thoughts become consumed with the things we want and gotta have. Christmas becomes all about me and my wants. The success of Christmas is judged by the things we get and if we don’t get that right gift then Christmas was a bust and we feel like we were cheated. When that happens, you have reached the pinnacle of the “Selfishness Syndrome”.

3 Ways to Counter the “Selfishness Syndrome”: From Philippians 2:3-4
1. Don’t be Selfish
2. Be Humble
3. Take an Interest in Others

Fulfillment comes when we become a part of meeting others needs.

PC’s Tips in Helping You to Defeat the “Selfishness Syndrome” in Your Lives:
1. Read Philippians 2:3-4: Every Day!!
2. Look to Help Out 3 People this Christmas Season.
3. Have Fun Doing It!

PSUTH of the Month - November: Last Clue

I know how hard this my be, so I have decided to make it easy.
Here we go...
1. This person's favorite hair cut when they were little was a flat top.
2. Typically, this person only attends Sunday School.
3. Their sibling attends PSU.

Think really hard because the teams that come up with the correct answer will be given 1000 points. Yes I said 1000 points.
