There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way.

Key Thought: As we start a new year, it is easy for us to become stagnant in our walk with God. As a Christian we have the duty to continue to grow in our knowledge and wisdom of God’s word. Growth becomes the essential element of our walk with God. We must remain diligent in faithful obedience and Christian growth.

Reasons We Struggle to Grow:
1. We’re lazy!!
a. The Bible is boring to read.
b. I don’t understand it.
c. I already know everything.

2. It’s not our top priority.
a. There are more important things to do than study the Bible.
b. I was meaning to do that but I just can’t find the time.
c. Are you kidding me? The new TV shows/football games are on.

3. We don’t care to grow.
a. If I start growing in my Christian walk that means I might have to do something I am not comfortable doing.
b. It’s not cool to show that you are interested in this Christian thing. Others might make fun of me.
c. I really don’t care about growing as a Christian. I just don’t want to go to Hell.

PC Tips to Growth:
1. Understand that God’s words holds truths that help us live a better life.
a. It’s our handbook to RIGHTOUSNESS. It teaches us how to live right. Ephesians 6:2 - “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise”
b. It gives us words of ENCOURAGEMENT. Proverbs 12:16 – “A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.”
c. It's where we go for COMFORT.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

2. Work on being a better person.
a. Being a good person doesn’t happen overnight, it is a process that takes time and effort and it takes the right kind of guidance. The Guidance only found in God’s word.

3. It is your duty.
a. As a Christian, it is your duty to study God’s word.
b. It’s your duty to be able to share God’s word with those whom you come in contact with.
c. It’s your duty to know what God’s word is telling you so you can live like a Christian should.

The Chase is Coming to an End

I know a number of you really want your group to win the Chase so I thought I would give everyone a chance to get back into the race if they desire. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:3-4

Key Thought:
Well like it or not, we have officially hit the holiday season. For most of us we will be affected one way or another by the mad rush of the holiday season. For some of us, we will be affected at home because mom and dad are rushing around trying to get everything done in time for Christmas. We will be dragged from store to store while, most likely, our moms try to get that perfect gift for everyone on her list as well as everyone else’s list. Perhaps, others of you will be affected because mom and dad will turn into some kind of an evil possessed person. Shouting out instructions to us like, clean the house, wrap the presents, set up the tree, and hang the Christmas decorations.

Another way we can be affected by the mad rush of the holiday season is this thing I have named the “Selfishness Syndrome”. It happens to all of us. We find ourselves caught up in thought process of, “What is in it for me?” Our thoughts become consumed with the things we want and gotta have. Christmas becomes all about me and my wants. The success of Christmas is judged by the things we get and if we don’t get that right gift then Christmas was a bust and we feel like we were cheated. When that happens, you have reached the pinnacle of the “Selfishness Syndrome”.

3 Ways to Counter the “Selfishness Syndrome”: From Philippians 2:3-4
1. Don’t be Selfish
2. Be Humble
3. The fight isn’t with an umpire instead it is with your siblings and you are willing to do whatever it takes to win the fight.
The Trouble Starts With…
• Jealousy – A sibling gets something or is treated differently than you are.
• Sharing – A sibling uses something of yours or you have to share time on the computer or even worse you have to share time with the TV.
• Personal Invasion – A sibling invades your space (bedroom), your time (babysitting), or your possessions (wears your clothes, plays with your gameboy and so on)
• Tattletale – A sibling tells your parents everything you do.
• Anger – A sibling has made you so mad you could just strangle them.

Remembering God’s Word …
• 1 Corinthians 1:10 – “I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the (among you) church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”
• Romans 12:17 – “Do not repay anyone evil for evil.”
• 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
• Ephesians 4:26 - "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”
• Matthew 22:37-39 - "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
• Leviticus 19:18 - "‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.

PC’s Tips for Dealing with Siblings:
1. Overlook Minor Offenses
• Don’t get bent out of shape over every little thing
• Be the better person and give a little bit
• Work at keeping harmony – Don’t be “pushing buttons”

2. Deal Healthily with Conflict
• Don’t point fingers or unleash personal attacks
• Stay calm even when others are not
• Work at seeing both sides of the conflict
• If your are wrong then,
a. Admit – what you did wrong
b. Apologize – for your actions
c. Accept – the consequences for your actions
d. Ask – for forgiveness
e. Alter – future actions

3. Take God’s Advice
• Matthew 19:19 – “love your neighbor as yourself.”

PSUth of the Month: Clue #2

1. Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise—"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

Key Thought:
Like it or not, your relationship with your parents is the most important earthly relationship you will ever have. Like it or not, if your faith in Christ is real then it will prove itself in your relationship with your family. Which means the better your relationship is with God then the better your relationship will be with your family. You have the responsibility to love, honor and obey your parents even when you think they are unfair and demanding. That is quite a different picture than what the world paint. The world wants you believe that it is OK to rebel against your parents and to be disobedient at any chance you can. Of course, God’s Word paints a different picture.

The World Says…
It’s OK to rebel and be disobedient to our parents.
It’s OK to lie and sneak around our parent’s backs.
It’s OK to talk back and be disrespectful to our parents.
It’s OK to do what I want, when I want to, because it is my life and not theirs.
It’s OK not to listen to our parents because what do they know anyway.
(Ex. Homer Simpson)

God Words Says…
Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise”
If you can’t honor your earthly parents, how in the world will you ever honor your Heavenly Father?
Honoring your Father and Mother is more than the willingness to submit to their authority because you have to, but because you want to.
Honoring your Father and Mother comes from the overflow of the love you have for them.

PC Tips to Honor Your Parents…

1. Understand the Differences
a. From your point of view, parents are sometimes hard to understand. There are differences between the generations.
b. This is no barrier or this should not stop you from honoring your parents.
c. Work to resolve the differences of opinions you have with your parents.

2. Believe Your Parents are Doing What’s Best
a. Almost, always, parents are acting from a very strong desire to do what they believe to be best for you.
b. Don’t overlook the fact that you are indebted to your parents for the life they have given you!
c. Work at seeing the big picture.

3. Honoring Your Parents Includes:
a. Loving Your Parents
· The second great command is to love your neighbor. The closest neighbors you have are your parents.
· Natural love comes from your actions; spiritual love comes from the heart.
b. Submitting to Your Parents
· Submitting to your parents is shown in our attitudes towards them.
c. Obeying your Parents
· Obeying your parents is lived out in your from the overflow love you have for your parents and the wiliness to submit to their authority by obeying what they have asked you to do.

God’s children are called to honor their parents. Fortunately for some and unfortunately for others, you will only have one set of biological parents. As Christians, it is our duty to obey God’s word by honoring our parents. It isn’t always easy, but anything worth doing ALWAYS comes with a sacrifice. This sacrifice comes with a promise from God. I believe God will bless you for being a blessing to your parents. Take some time this week and work on being a blessing to your parents. You might be surprised how well things can be at home.

October's Highlights

Sports Emporium: Sunday, October 8
Time: 6 to 9 PM
Cost: $20
Everyone is Invited

Mission Breakfast: Saturday, October 21
We will need everyone's help!

Happy Birthday's
Oct. 14 - Diane Bender
Oct. 18 - Sara Cover
Oct. 20 - Justin Timko
Oct. 26 - Kara Weaver
Oct 30 - Bret Gordon

PSUth of the Month

Here is week #1 clues:
1. The friends you choose to hang around with will ultimately shape you as a person. So the question we want to wrestle with is, “How do you choose your friends?”

The World’s Standard:
-- Popularity
-- Social Standard
-- Athletic Ability
-- Appearance
-- Common Interests

God’s Standard:
-- What’s on the inside counts the most.

PC’s Tips on Choosing Friends:
1. Week #3 - The Dating Game!

The Dating Game... It is one of those things in life that can be either great or that can cause a great deal of pain in our lives. I believe God's word is VERY clear on what type of person we should be dating. Let's take a closer look at the differences between the world's best date and God's best date

The World View: Desired Qualities in our Date
-- Good Looking
-- Physically Buff
-- Money
-- Social Standard - Connections
-- Great Hair (Thanks Kierston)
-- Personality

God's View: Desired Qualities of our Date
-- 2 Corinthians 6:14 - Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war.
-- We need to date people who have the same Godly values we have.
-- If we don't, we risk a life time of pain and regret.

PC’s Tips on Dating:
1. Talk with your Parent(s) on the Rules of Dating.
Set CLEAR rules about dating.
· Who to date?
· Where can you go on your date?
· What age you can start dating?
· What time you need to be home?
2. Ask the Following Questions When Going on a Date:
Who:
· Who is this person that I am going to be dating?
· Can I trust them?
· How well do I know them?
Why:
· Why do I want to date this person?
· Why am I attracted to this person?
· Why is this person attracted to me?
Where:
· Where are we going to go on this date?
· No plan, means NO date.
When:
· What time do you plan on the date starting.
· What time will the date be over.
How:
· How are you planning to go on the date?
· Who’s driving?
· Will there be other couples?
3. Communicate your Plans with your Parents.
4. 2 Corinthians 6:14 - Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war.

Dating is a fun and an exciting time in your life but there are many dangers in it as well. Before you start dating, take time and talk to your parent(s) about it. And ALWAYS keep 2 Corinthians 6:14 in mind when you are choosing whether to date a person or not.

"Life is Good but Eternal Life is Better" Week #2 - Sex is Good but Done God's Way It is Even Better!

Sex is always one of those topics that draws a lot of attention. The world like to portray sex as the thing to do. God's word on the other hand gives us a clear picture of how, when and with who we should have sex with. Done in God's way sex is better than good ... it is GREAT!

Key Verses:
Deuteronomy 5:18
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Ephesians 5:3
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4

Example from the Bible: Tough Decisions and Touch Consequences

Situation #1 - David & Bathsheba: 2 Samuel 11 &12
Situation #2 - Joseph & Potiphar: Genesis 39
Situation #3 - The Adulterous Woman: John 8:1-11

PC Tips to Staying Pure:
1. Know in your head and in your heart your physical boundaries before you get married and
don’t move those boundaries forward until you do get married.
2. Communicate those boundaries with the one that you are dating.
3. Stay out of tempting situations!
4. Find someone to keep you accountable - someone who has permission to ask you the tough questions and someone with whom you can be brutally honest.

True Love Waits commitment that some of you made.
Believing that True Love Waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to remain sexually pure from this day forward until the day I enter into a biblical marriage relationship.

If you are interested in learning more about True Love Waits, make sure you contact Pastor Craig as soon as possible.

"Life is Good but Eternal Life is Better" Week #1 - The Allure of the World

Last Wedensday we talked about why the world's ways and views are so alluring.
For Example:
1. It's Fun
2. It's New
3. Everyone is doing it, why shouldn't I

The Facts:
1. God created us and knows what best for us. We need to just trust Him.
2. Satan ways are the worlds ways. His goal is to destroy YOU!

Pastor C's Thoughts:
1. Don't buy the Lies
2. Learn form the mistakes of others
3. Don't try to beat Satan at his own game

It was a great night. Don't worry if missed anything.
